"If you are already doing an exchange year, and spending so much money, you would like to choose a country, maybe you have never been to before, or don’t know anything about, it will probably be an experience for your life that you will never forget, instead of going to the mainstream country that you already know everything"

"One of the memories was going to a Thai dance club, it feels awkward in the beginning or talking Thai in the beginning, if people can’t speak English and just try It, it would be absolutely worth it, and in the end, it remained it as a memory that I’m very happy about now. I was just very happy with OEG, and I am very happy about the support, there was always there, like every day you could text someone, and even though at the weekend, at holidays, you can just get the support"

"I have learned about my strengths and weaknesses and I know more about my character. I never gave up and reached the goals I wanted to reach. I expressed my feelings and grown in myself. I did many trips and joined the school band. My biggest advice is if you have a problem, try to talk to a person about it because if you keep it to yourself, it will make you feel sad"

"I chose Thailand because I didn’t wanna go to the USA, like Canada like the basic stuff, because so many people, so many of my friends go to like western countries, where you speak English as a first language, but I kinda wanted to do something different, and Thailand is a very great country, has amazing food, amazing people, amazing culture and Yeah! I feel great about this choice"

“Teaching in Thailand was definitely an experience that has changed my life. I was in my placement for about a year, a very small town in Northeast Thailand, while there were definitely some struggles (for example that time I didn’t have any access to running water for about two weeks during a drought) I’ve learned so much from them and I wouldn’t have changed anything for the world.”

“My experience in Thailand was absolutely incredible. It completely transformed my life and the way that I see both myself and the world. Living and working in a culture so different from my own and building relationships with people who have had extremely different life experiences than me was arguably the greatest education I have ever received. In fact, one of my favorite parts of living in Thailand was that I learned something new every single day. Whether it was a new word in the Thai language, a fact about the history of Thailand, a lesson that taught me how to be a better educator, or something personal about myself, there was always something new for me to learn. I feel as though my experience in Thailand helped me to discover the best version of myself. It taught me about bravery, empathy, authenticity, trust, and kindness.”

"My experience teaching in Thailand was hands down the best year of my life! I initially signed up to teach abroad for only one term, but ended up staying longer because I completely fell in love with the students, culture, and beauty of Thailand. Moving to Thailand was a big step out of my comfort zone, but all of the OEG staff was so welcoming and really eased my nerves upon arrival. I learned so much at orientation and ended up meeting some of my best friends along the way! I could not have done it without OEG. Living in Thailand was one of the most rewarding and amazing opportunities I have ever had. If you are even halfway considering it, I say go for it! You only regret the chances you didn’t take. I am sure you will appreciate the “mai pen rai” [don’t worry] way of living as much as I did. From the incredible food, kind people, and breathtaking scenery – it’s impossible to not fall in love with Thailand! "

“I originally joined the Teach in Thailand program with the intention of only staying 6 months. That 6 months quickly changed into a year and that year became another. What was supposed to be a 6-month experience, turned into an almost 2-year adventure. No words, in any language, could accurately express how much I loved teaching in Thailand. It was the most challenging thing I have yet to do with my life, but also the most rewarding by far. It certainly had its ups and downs, but I think that is the beauty of an experience like this. It offers you an unfiltered look at not only a new culture, but also yourself. The challenges I faced in Thailand pushed me and forced me to learn more about myself than I ever thought possible. The things you learn in an experience like this are invaluable to you whether you would like to continue teaching or not. I will always be grateful to the Teach in Thailand program and to OEG—for the experience, for the culture, for the growth, and most importantly for some of the best friends I will ever have. If you treat this experience with the care, hard work, and respect it deserves, I promise you will not be disappointed. So, get out there and see what the world has to offer!”

“Your time in Thailand you will get out what you put into it. I am thankful for my relationships with my students and they are one of the biggest things I got out of my time teaching. My time in Thailand helped set me up for success in my current role. Living and working in a small rural part of Thailand meant I adapted to life in Asia more quickly. I became fluent in body language and hand gestures when speaking with locals. Currently I am a primary caretaker for Sun Bear cubs in Borneo. I am in an even more rural part of the world but I felt prepared coming from Phusang. My schedule and my resources have constantly fluctuated here in Indonesia but teaching in a Thai school helped me learn to embrace adaptability and flexibility. Forming relationships with my students helped me learn that bonds could be formed regardless of languages, and I have connected with many of the local staff here and we speak very little of each other’s language.”
